The Power of Ants and Bumblebees

I can't remember where I read this, but I believe it was in one of the E-myth books.

I read a lot, often switching between books throughout the day, so I may have it mixed up.  But the basic idea was a comparison between a successful entrepreneur and an ant. When an ant wants to get somewhere it has a single focus on getting to that place.

The ant knows where he wants to go and what he has to do when he gets there.  But sometimes the ant encounters an obstacle.  If you put something down in front of the ant, though, you never watch the ant give up.

You never watch the ant flop down and feel awful because things are too hard and he doesn't know what to do.  Through the benefit of the ant's beautiful instincts, he'll simply try to climb over the obstacle.

If he determines he can't climb over the obstacle, he'll look for a way around the obstacle. That ant knows what so many of us don't--that if he just keeps moving either ahead or forward he'll eventually come to the bend on the road that will get the obstacle out of his way and allow him to get where he's going.

He doesn't turn around and go back where he came from, he just keeps trekking. Imagine you put a book in front of that ant.  For something so small, that represents a significant climb.  If he chooses to go around, that represents some significant time and distance for that ant.  The obstacle is certainly nothing the ant can destroy or handle on his own.

But the ant just keeps right on moving. While we're in Insectopia you might as well stop and consider the metaphor of the bumblebee.  It's a well known fact that a bumblebee has no capability to fly.  Aerodynamically, the physics don't support the bumblebee's ability to get the job done, but nobody told the bumblebee that.  He believes he can fly and so manifests flight.

Now what if you had the staying power of the ant and the manifestation power of the bumblebee?  What if your belief in yourself was so strong, so unstoppable, that you could reach greater heights than ever before?

This is the sort of toolbox every dedicated entrepreneur needs, especially when attempting to create a profitable home business.
