Site Build It! Diary, Day 2, Part 3
During the holiday I didn't touch SBI at all. I was busy with Christmas, my daughter's birthday, a trip out of town and New Years. But it's 2010, and my only resolution is to get this site up, running, and profitable.
I finished the videos for Day 2. I was tempted to skip ahead, but I'm glad I didn't. That said, having at least a passing knowledge of things like Google Adwords, Cost per click, and keywords came in handy today. SBI tells you again and again that reading and listening to everything is the key to success, though, and I believe them. There is vital information I would have missed had I not gone ahead and seen it through.
One thing that's very exciting is the fact that this Master Keyword list I've been working with is the result of a third party keyword research service that's so expensive that it makes SBI pay for itself easier. You get 25 searches which is normally enough for anybody. You can also buy additional credits. I've begun thinking about that, and about entrepreneurs who do nothing more than own a series of profitable, content-rich websites.
I learned about keyword depth, and what profitability really means. I also saw just how much human analysis enters the process. I ended up with one clear winner after doing all the tests, though. Online rpgs seems to have a high demand, not much supply, a lot of monetization potential, and be a clear passion of mine. It also had 17 keywords with a demand over 2000. The others I'd chosen had 7 or less. So I've chosen my Site Concept, am done with Day 2, and am ready to go sailing off into Part 3. I did forget to get rid of all those other keywords so I can focus, but I'll do that at the beginning of Day 3, tomorrow.
I should note that "online RPG games" wasn't my original seed word--my original seed word was RPG. For those who don't know RPG stands for roleplaying game. RPGs have always been a passion of mine, both on and offline. But I do play quite a bit online. Further there are thousands of different types of RPGs to play online. So I can think of a lot to talk about, and I jotted some of those ideas down today, too. I think that's very important, because if you are sitting at the computer staring and racking your brains for what to write you're in trouble. That said, I did end up a bit afield of my original concept, which had been to do a site full of plot ideas for various RPGs, stuff that game masters could use and adapt to their own material. Then again I could conceivably add a section and just turn the entire attention to the online RPG application of those plots, aimed at developers and admin. I'll focus on FREE online RPGs because not only is that a high demand series of keywords but it also makes testing them out a lot easier on me. ;) And more fun!
Fun is important, I think, because if you're dreading going to work at home you're not going to have any better results than doing the work you do at the office. I know I'm excited to continue. As for all of you that haven't taken me up on my challenge yet, I'll be thinking of you when the first deposit hits my PayPal account. :)
